How the POS Terminal and Kitchen Display Work Together

PurpleHere connects your front-of-house ordering with your kitchen through a real-time system. Here is how the POS Terminal and Kitchen Display work together to speed up service.

POS Terminal

The POS Terminal is where staff create orders. Select the order type — Dine-in, Takeaway, Pickup, or Delivery — then add items from your menu. You can attach customer information (name, phone number), assign a table number, or issue a pager number. Payment is processed directly within the terminal.

Kitchen Display System

When an order is placed, it appears instantly on the Kitchen Display as a Kanban board with three columns: Pending, Preparing, and Ready. Kitchen staff can move orders through these stages with a single tap. The display shows elapsed time for each order so you can monitor preparation speed.

Live Orders Page

The Live Orders page shows all current orders with real-time status updates powered by Socket.io. Filter by date range, order type, or status. Each order card shows the customer name, items ordered, and current status. You can drill into any order for full details.

Order Status Flow

Orders follow a clear workflow: Outstanding → Pending → Preparing → Ready → Served → Completed. At any point, an order can be cancelled with a reason noted. This structured flow ensures nothing gets lost between the counter and the kitchen.
